In the 13th chapter of the book of Matthew,
we read about some of the parables of the LORD.
In particular on stands out and remains arguably the best known one
- the parable of the sower.
It is to this allegory we turn our attention this morning,
in order understand perhaps how God works so we emulate Him.
The secret to success is hidden within this parable and so we must pay closer
attention to it and unlock the wisdom and truth God embedded within it.
Jesus in telling this story, started by saying, a farmer went out to sow.
- The farmer went out out to sow means that no one is bereft of seed.
Everyone has been given seed. Your seed is your time, your talents your ideas,
your money etc. in this parable it represents God’s words. The farmer was given seeds,
you have been given something to sow, to plant, by God –
“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply
and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.” 2 Corinthians 9:10”
- He went out means you have to work. Since you have seeds,
your job is to multiply it and you can’t do that without going to work with it.
You have to step out with your seeds – no excuses. Remember “The lazy man says,
“There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!”- Proverbs 22:13.
Make no excuses. Only lazy people make excuses.
- He scattered them across the field implied he had a lot of seed.
You must have a lot to sow. Use every ounce of seed you’ve been given.
By scattering the seed means he was working with them. Work with your ideas,
your time, your resources. God the creator of the Heavens and the earth is still working.
“But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am I.” John 5:17.
God is still healing, still saving, still creating worlds
- the universe is still expanding and we must be like our Father on heaven – also thinking and creating.
- Some fell by the way, on rocky soil, amongst thorns and on fertile soil implies he scattered them at different locations
- you must sow in different places, markets, audiences, schools, scatter your seeds in different places.
Take your ideas everywhere. Many are bound to fail according to this parable.
Matter of fact you’ll get hardly any return from about 75% of your ideas.
3 out of 4 people you preach the gospel to will not experience genuine conversion.
This is why it’s vitally important that you come with many ideas and also sow the words of God to as many people as possible.
- The story implies that most of the scattered seeds was lost – by the way,
on rocky soil, amongst thorns. So don’t worry if a lot of your seeds are lost
- it’s part of life. You must keep scattering them regardless.
Do not be discouraged. You only need a few to few to sprout into this huge oak
tree that will keep producing endless seeds. Blessing the lives of family, community and nation.
So keep on sowing!
